Who Microneedling is For
Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?
How microneedling works. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. These precise micro-injuries trigger your skin’s natural repair response, prompting it to rebuild collagen and elastin — the proteins that keep skin firm, smooth, and resilient. Because the improvement comes from your own collagen remodeling, results build gradually over a series of treatments rather than all at once.
What it treats. By rebuilding collagen, microneedling improves several concerns at once: acne scars and uneven, rolling texture; enlarged pores; fine lines and wrinkles; dull tone; and overall skin rejuvenation on the face, neck, and body. Sublative radiofrequency microneedling adds skin tightening for deeper scarring and mild laxity.
Microneedling is a good option for most healthy adults who want smoother texture, fewer acne scars, smaller-looking pores, or an early-aging reset with little downtime. During your consultation, your provider will recommend the right approach:
- Standard microneedling for collagen induction on the face, neck, and body. Book locally in La Grange or Frankfort.
- Sublative radiofrequency microneedling for deeper remodeling and skin tightening, available in La Grange, Shorewood, and Mount Greenwood.
- Enhancements such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or a stem cell growth factor, added to amplify and speed your results.
What to expect. A topical numbing cream is applied first, so most patients feel only a mild buzzing or scratching sensation. A typical session takes 30 to 60 minutes, followed by 1 to 3 days of mild, sunburn-like redness. Most patients see improvement after about three sessions, with a series of six recommended for deeper scarring.
Professional microneedling vs. at-home derma rollers. At-home derma rollers use shorter needles that can’t safely reach the depth that drives real collagen remodeling, and they carry a higher risk of irritation or infection without medical sterilization and screening. Professional microneedling at Express Med Spa is performed by licensed medical providers who tailor the needle depth and treatment plan to your skin.
