Karina Willms, BSN, RN, is an aesthetic nurse injector at Express Med Spa Manteno, at 3 N Main St, Manteno, IL 60950, and part of our nurse-practitioner-led team. She has been a registered nurse since 2013, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University in 2020, and sees patients in English and Spanish.

How she came to aesthetics

Karina has always had an interest in medical aesthetics. When she saw that Express Med Spa was opening its Manteno location, she reached out to the owner, Stefanie Drozd, and asked to interview. A friend who works as a nurse injector had told her how rewarding the work was and the difference it made for her clients, and hearing that firsthand helped settle her decision.

What she enjoys

Karina enjoys performing microneedling, chemical peels and neurotoxin injections. What she values is seeing the improvement in a patient’s skin and, even more, their excitement when they return for follow-up appointments.

Her approach

Karina believes every patient is unique, with their own concerns, goals and expectations, so she starts by listening: what the patient hopes to achieve and what they need. She then explains the available treatment options, including the potential benefits and limitations of each, and recommends a plan based on their goals.

She wants patients to feel informed, comfortable and confident in their decisions without ever feeling pressured to pursue a treatment. She is honest about realistic expectations, including when it makes sense to start small or take time to consider the options, and her goal is to build trust while putting each patient’s safety and overall well-being first.
