Lip Filler Augmentation

Lip filler adds volume, shape, and definition to the lips using a hyaluronic acid gel injected at a precise depth in and around the lip body. Depending on how the product is placed and in what quantity, it can increase the overall fullness of the lips, improve the definition of the lip border where the lip meets the surrounding skin, add projection so the lips appear more prominent when viewed from the side, address mild asymmetry between the upper and lower lip or between the left and right sides, and restore volume that has diminished with age. A skilled injector plans the placement based on your specific lip anatomy and the result you are looking for, not a generic template.

We use Revanesse Lips+, a hyaluronic acid filler designed specifically for lip augmentation. It is formulated to move naturally with the lips, integrate smoothly into the tissue, and produce soft, consistent results. The formula includes lidocaine, a built-in local anesthetic that helps keep the treatment comfortable. Revanesse Lips+ has been used in over 8.2 million syringes worldwide and has a strong clinical safety record. It is used as our primary lip filler product at all four Express Med Spa locations.

Not when the treatment is approached conservatively with the right volume for your anatomy. The most common cause of overdone-looking lip filler is too much product placed without regard for the patient’s natural lip proportions. Our approach at Express Med Spa is to plan every appointment around what looks right for your individual lip shape and your lower face as a whole. We can always add more at a follow-up if you want more volume. We start with what is appropriate and build from there. One full syringe, which is 1mL of Revanesse Lips+, is the standard appointment and produces a real, visible result for most patients. Patients with naturally very thin lips who want a significant change, or patients who are restoring more substantial volume loss, may benefit from a second syringe placed in the same visit or at a follow-up appointment. Patients who want a more subtle result or are trying lip filler for the first time may be better served by our Mini Lip Filler appointment, which uses a half syringe. The lips are a sensitive area, and some discomfort during injection is expected. Revanesse Lips+ contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic built into the formula, which significantly reduces discomfort during the procedure. Topical numbing cream is applied to the lips and surrounding area before any injections begin. Most patients describe the experience as manageable, with brief moments of sharpness at the injection points. The upper lip is typically more sensitive than the lower lip.

Swelling after lip filler is real and should be expected. In the first 24 to 48 hours your lips will appear noticeably fuller than the final settled result, and for some patients the initial swelling is significant enough to feel self-conscious about. This is temporary and a normal part of the healing process. By three to five days most of the swelling has resolved, and by one to two weeks you are seeing your actual result. We always advise patients to plan their appointment at least two weeks before any event or occasion where their lips will be photographed or observed closely.

The most commonly reported side effects are swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, and mild pain at the injection site, all of which are expected and typically resolve within a few days to two weeks. Less common side effects include skin sensitivity, lumpiness, acne-like eruptions, and in rare cases more serious complications. As with any facial filler injection, there is a risk of unintentional injection into a blood vessel, which can result in serious complications including vision changes or skin necrosis. Patients with a history of cold sores should disclose this before booking. A complete discussion of risks takes place at your consultation before any treatment is agreed to.

A full syringe of Revanesse Lips+ typically lasts 9 to 12 months. Individual longevity depends on your lip anatomy, how active your facial muscles are, your metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Patients who maintain consistent treatment over time often find their results last toward the longer end of that range. A Mini Lip Filler top-up at around the six-month mark is an option for patients who want to maintain their result between full syringe appointments.

The difference is volume. Lip filler augmentation uses a full syringe, which is 1mL of product. Mini lip filler uses a half syringe, which is 0.5mL. A full syringe produces a more noticeable result and typically lasts longer. A half syringe produces a softer, more subtle result and is a popular starting point for first-time patients or patients who want only a modest improvement. Yes. Revanesse Lips+ is a hyaluronic acid filler and can be dissolved at any time using hyaluronidase if you are not happy with your result. This makes the treatment fully reversible, which is one reason many first-time patients feel comfortable committing to it. Yes. Lip filler pairs naturally with a perioral line filler treatment for the skin surrounding the lips, with a neurotoxin lip flip for added projection without additional volume, and with other facial filler treatments such as cheek or nasolabial fold filler for a more comprehensive result. Many patients combine their lip filler appointment with a neurotoxin treatment in the same visit. Your provider will discuss what combinations make sense for your goals at your consultation.

Possibly, but this requires a specific conversation with your provider before booking. Any injection in or near the lips can trigger a herpes simplex reactivation in patients with a history of oral cold sores. Your nurse practitioner may recommend a short course of antiviral medication taken before your appointment as a precaution. Please disclose your cold sore history when you book and again at your consultation so your provider can advise you appropriately.
