About This Treatment
An IPL photofacial uses broadband light to target the sun damage, brown spots, and redness that topical products cannot reach. Here is how the treatment works and what to expect, with the full guide further down the page.
Treatment Pricing
Price is per full-face session. Most patients need a series of 3 to 6 sessions for best results. Single-area options for the hands, spots or vessels, and rosacea are also available.

Who IPL Photofacial is For
Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?
Who Is a Good Candidate for an IPL Photofacial?
IPL photofacials work best for adults with lighter to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick types 1 through 3) who want to fade sun damage, brown spots, and redness. Because IPL targets the contrast between pigment and the surrounding skin, the ideal candidate has visible spots or redness on skin that is not currently tanned.
IPL is not recommended for deeper skin tones. On darker complexions (Fitzpatrick types 4 through 6) or recently tanned skin, the light can be absorbed by the surrounding skin rather than the intended target, which raises the risk of burns and unwanted pigment changes. If IPL is not right for your skin, our providers will recommend a safer alternative, such as microneedling or a chemical peel, during your consultation. Your safety always comes first.
Concerns an IPL Photofacial Addresses
- Sun spots, age spots, and solar lentigines
- Freckles and mottled, uneven pigmentation
- General hyperpigmentation and dull, uneven tone
- Facial redness, flushing, and rosacea-related redness
- Broken capillaries and small visible vessels
- Enlarged-looking pores and rough texture, with the elos radiofrequency benefit
Safety Overview
The Candela elos device is FDA cleared, and every IPL photofacial at Express Med Spa is performed by trained, licensed clinicians. IPL is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, on recently tanned skin, or if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 12 months. Melasma can be unpredictable with IPL and sometimes worsens, so we discuss expectations carefully. Tell your provider about any photosensitizing medications, a history of cold sores, or skin conditions so we can plan the safest treatment for you.
