PRP can help, but it is not a guarantee. It works by stimulating follicles that are still active, so it is most effective for early-to-moderate thinning. The evidence supports improvement — less shedding and gradual thickening — for many people, but results vary and PRP cannot revive follicles that are already gone.

Results are not permanent. After the initial series, most people need maintenance sessions a few times a year to hold their results, because the underlying causes of thinning continue over time.

Most side effects are mild and short-lived: tenderness, slight swelling or redness, and sometimes a brief uptick in shedding before new growth. Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is very low.

Once a follicle is scarred or completely gone, PRP cannot bring it back. That is why early-to-moderate thinning, where active follicles remain, responds best. If the scalp is already completely bare in an area, a hair transplant may be the better option.
