Radiesse Hand Filler for the Backs of the Hands

Hand Rejuvenation in Chicagoland

Hands give away age faster than the face because the soft tissue cushion between the skin and the tendons thins over the years. Our nurse practitioner led injectors use Radiesse to restore that volume on the backs of the hands and to stimulate your own collagen, at all four Chicagoland locations.

BEST FOR

Bony looking hands, prominent tendons and veins, crepey skin on the backs of the hands, age related volume loss
  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

How does Radiesse work on the backs of the hands?

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. It replaces the soft tissue cushion that thins with age, so the hollows between the tendons fill in, and the CaHA acts as a scaffold that prompts your own collagen over the following weeks.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

Where on the hand is the filler placed?

Only on the dorsum, the back of the hand: the hollows between the tendons, the plane above the prominent veins, and the broad surface where crepey texture shows. Both hands are treated in the same visit, so most plans use more than one syringe. Nothing is placed in the fingers or palms.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What happens at my appointment?

Your nurse practitioner reviews your hands and goals, marks the hollows to be treated, cleanses both hands, and can apply a topical numbing cream. The product is then placed through a small number of entry points and distributed evenly. Most visits run about 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

The added volume is visible the same day, mixed with some swelling that settles within a few days. The collagen your body builds develops over the following weeks to a few months. Results commonly last 12 to 18 months. Individual results vary.

How does Radiesse compare to hyaluronic acid hand filler or Sculptra?

Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume and can be dissolved; Radiesse adds volume and also stimulates collagen, but it cannot be dissolved. Sculptra is another biostimulator, but Express Med Spa does not offer Sculptra. Brown spots on the hands are a separate, pigment problem that filler does not address.

    About This Treatment

Here is what Radiesse does on the backs of the hands, where it is placed, what an appointment involves, when results show, and how it compares to hyaluronic acid hand filler and other options. The short answers are in the slides, with the full guide further down the page.

    Treatment Pricing

Hand rejuvenation is priced at your consultation. Radiesse based services beyond the face are priced separately from facial Radiesse, and your injector confirms how many syringes your plan uses and your total before anything is placed. Prices are subject to change and are based on a planned consultation with our staff.

    Who Hand Rejuvenation is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns Hand Rejuvenation Addresses

    • Bony or skeletal looking hands where the soft tissue cushion has thinned
    • Tendons that stand out as ridges across the back of the hand
    • Veins that read sharply through thin skin
    • Crepey, papery texture on the backs of the hands
    • Hands that look older than a face that has been treated for years

Who Is a Good Candidate for Hand Rejuvenation?

This treatment fits adults whose hands have lost volume, where the goal is to restore the cushion between the skin and the underlying structures and to improve skin quality over time. It is a strong fit if you want a visible change on the day of treatment as well as a collagen benefit that builds afterward, and if you are comfortable choosing a product that is not reversible in exchange for a result that commonly lasts 12 to 18 months.

It may not be the right choice if what bothers you most is brown spots or sun damage, which are a pigment problem that filler does not address; if you want a product that can be dissolved; if you expect veins to be removed rather than softened; or if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain allergies or medical conditions. Your nurse practitioner will recommend an alternative in those cases.

    Safety Overview

At Express Med Spa, every hand rejuvenation treatment is performed by a licensed nurse practitioner or registered nurse. The back of the hand carries tendons, veins, and nerves close to the surface under thin skin, which is exactly why placement by a trained medical injector matters here.

We do not place Radiesse in the lips or around the eyes, where its safety has not been established. Because Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, your consultation includes an honest conversation about whether it is the right product for your goals. Tell your provider about any allergies, medications, bleeding disorders, or history of severe allergic reactions so we can plan the safest treatment for you.

    • I’ve gone to a few med spas where you kind of feel out of place and sort of judged. Here at Express Med Spa it felt very comfortable and welcomed. I went on a last minute chemical peel on my day off and to my luck the owner Stephanie was the one doing it. She was amazing and even gave me an after care kit. Something I’ve never received at other med spas. I went in today for mini lip fill and brought my mom with which was welcomed to come in during my procedure. I am very happy to find a great place with a fantastic staff alongside their many services.

I went in for a hydration and vitamin boost, and I genuinely felt a difference afterward—more energized and refreshed. • So thankful the Express Med Spa team! I suffered with horrible acne all through high school and was left with a bunch of acne scars. Not even foundation could cover how many acne scars I had. Stefanie gave me an microneedling treatment and within a month my face was nearly perfect. I can’t even describe how much my confidence has went up in my natural beauty because of Stefanie’s help.

      • How Radiesse Restores Volume on the Backs of the Hands

Radiesse is an injectable made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. CaHA is a mineral compound found naturally in bone, which is part of why Radiesse behaves differently from the hyaluronic acid fillers most people research first. On the backs of the hands it does two things at once.

The first is immediate. Hands look bony and skeletal because the soft tissue cushion that sits between the skin and the underlying tendons, veins, and bones thins out over the years. Radiesse replaces that lost cushion, so the hollows between the tendons fill in and the hard structures underneath stop reading so sharply through the skin.

The second happens slowly. The gel carrier is absorbed over the weeks after treatment while the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold that prompts your own cells to lay down new collagen. That is why Radiesse is described as a biostimulator, or collagen stimulator, and why the skin on the back of the hand often looks thicker and less crepey a couple of months after the appointment rather than on day one. For the underlying science, read our guide to what Radiesse is and how it works, and see our Radiesse filler hub for the facial version of this treatment.

      • Where Hand Filler Is Placed on the Backs of the Hands

Hand rejuvenation treats the dorsum, the back of the hand, and nothing else. At Express Med Spa the treated zones are:

        • The hollows between the tendons: the channels that deepen as the soft tissue cushion thins, letting the tendons stand out as ridges
        • The plane above the prominent veins: filler sits above the vessels and softens how sharply they read through thin skin, which is camouflage rather than vein removal
        • The broad surface of the back of the hand: where crepey, papery texture shows and where the collagen response does its work

Both hands are treated in the same visit so they match. How the product is applied matters as much as where. Your injector places it through a small number of entry points, usually with a cannula or a fine needle, then distributes it evenly across the plane so it sits as a smooth layer rather than a lump over any one tendon.

Because the back of the hand is a broad surface and both hands are treated together, most plans use more than one syringe, and your injector confirms the number at your consultation.

There are areas this treatment does not cover. Radiesse is not placed in the fingers or the palms. It is also not placed in the lips or around the eyes, where its safety has not been established, so we use hyaluronic acid products for those areas; see lip filler augmentation. Brown spots and sun damage on the backs of the hands are a pigment problem rather than a volume problem, and filler does nothing for them; those are treated with light based options such as an IPL photofacial.

      • What to Expect at Your Hand Rejuvenation Appointment

Every appointment starts with a consultation. Your nurse practitioner looks at how much volume you have lost, how thin the skin is, and how prominent the tendons and veins are, then tells you honestly whether Radiesse is the right tool or whether something else fits your goal better. Because Radiesse cannot be dissolved the way a hyaluronic acid filler can, that planning conversation carries real weight.

        The visit itself is straightforward:

        • We cleanse both hands and can apply a topical numbing cream for comfort.
        • Your injector marks the hollows to be treated so the product is distributed evenly.
        • The product is placed through a small number of entry points using a cannula or a fine needle, then spread across the back of the hand.
        • Most visits take about 30 to 60 minutes from start to finish.
        • You can return to most normal activities the same day, with a break from heavy gripping and strenuous exercise.

Hand rejuvenation is priced at your consultation. Radiesse based services beyond the face are priced separately from facial Radiesse, and your injector confirms how many syringes your plan uses and your total before anything is placed. Our guide to Radiesse filler cost explains how syringe based pricing works in more detail.

      • Results Timeline and How Long Hand Rejuvenation Lasts

Two things happen on two different clocks. The volume is there the day you leave, because the product itself is doing that work immediately, and it is usually accompanied by some swelling across the backs of the hands that settles within a few days. So the very first look is a mix of product and swelling, not your final result.

The second clock is collagen. Over the following weeks and months your body responds to the CaHA scaffold by laying down new collagen, which is what improves skin quality rather than just filling hollows. Most people describe the change as hands that look fuller and smoother, with tendons and veins that read softer rather than disappearing.

Results commonly last 12 to 18 months, depending on your skin, your sun exposure, and how much product was used. Individual results vary. Hands take more sun and more daily use than almost any other area, so daily sunscreen on the backs of the hands, the step most routines skip, protects the result more than anything else you can do at home. For a fuller breakdown, read how long Radiesse filler lasts.

      • Radiesse Compared With Hyaluronic Acid Hand Filler and Other Options

If you are weighing options for aging hands, here is the honest landscape:

Versus hyaluronic acid hand filler. Hyaluronic acid products add volume and hold water, and they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you change your mind. Radiesse adds volume too, but it also leaves a scaffold that prompts your own collagen, and it cannot be dissolved. That trade, reversibility for a collagen benefit, is the real decision. Express Med Spa carries the Revanesse hyaluronic acid line where an HA product is the better fit, and our Radiesse vs fillers comparison lays out both sides.

Versus Sculptra. Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator that builds gradually across a series of sessions with no immediate volume. Radiesse offers a collagen benefit from a different product on a different timeline, and it does add volume on the day. Express Med Spa does not offer Sculptra. If Sculptra is what brought you here, a Radiesse consultation is the closest option we have, and our Radiesse vs Sculptra comparison is fair to both.

Versus light based treatment for sun spots. Many people dislike two different things about their hands at once: the bony, hollow look and the brown spots. Those are separate problems. Filler restores volume and does not fade pigment, while a light based treatment fades pigment and does not restore volume. Plenty of patients do both, and your nurse practitioner will sequence them at your consultation.

Versus creams and at home care. Hand creams, retinoids, and daily sunscreen genuinely help surface texture and protect what you have. They work at the surface, though, and they cannot replace the soft tissue cushion that has thinned underneath. If the shape of the hand is what bothers you, topical care alone will not change it, and we will say so.

      • Where to Get Hand Rejuvenation Near You

Hand rejuvenation is available at all four Express Med Spa locations, with the same nurse practitioner led standards at each clinic:

Every location is led by a licensed nurse practitioner, and every treatment is performed by a licensed medical injector. If you are looking for hand rejuvenation or hand filler anywhere in the Chicago southwest suburbs, book a consultation at whichever clinic is most convenient.
