Belotero Dermal Filler in Chicagoland

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler built to sit smoothly in thin, mobile skin, which makes it the product our injectors reach for on fine lines and delicate areas rather than on heavy structural volume. Express Med Spa carries it at all four Chicagoland clinics at $599 per syringe, or $349 for a half syringe. Every injection is placed by a licensed medical provider.

BEST FOR

Fine lines around the mouth, vertical lip lines, the lip border, nasolabial folds, fine cheek and chin crepiness, and under-eye hollowing where thin skin needs a soft, integrating gel.

    What is Belotero?

Belotero is an injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid, the same water-binding sugar your skin already produces and loses with age. It is manufactured by Merz using a cohesive polydensified matrix process, which produces a gel of uneven density rather than a uniform one.

That matters in practice. The softer zones let the gel spread into thin skin and knit with the surrounding tissue instead of sitting on top of it as a discrete bump, which is why it is chosen for shallow lines where a firmer filler would show as a ridge.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    Where does Belotero work best?

Belotero suits shallow, delicate work: fine lines around the mouth, vertical lip lines, the soft edge of the lip border, nasolabial folds, and the hollow beneath the eye where skin is thinnest anywhere on the face.

It is not a volumising filler. Building cheek projection, defining a jawline or restoring midface structure calls for a firmer product, and our injectors will say so rather than use more syringes of the wrong material to get there.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What happens at the appointment?

The visit runs about 30 minutes. A licensed medical provider maps the areas with you, cleans the skin, and applies topical numbing if you want it. The gel is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula, and you are shown a mirror before anything is finished.

Most people go straight back to their day afterwards. Swelling and small bruises are common for a few days, and a follow-up at one to two weeks is advised so the settled result can be assessed.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    How long does Belotero last?

You will see a change the moment it is placed, but that first look includes swelling. The honest read on the result is at about two weeks, once the gel has taken up water and settled into the tissue.

From there, plan on roughly six to twelve months. Nasolabial fold studies ran near ten months. Mobile areas such as the lips move the gel along faster than still ones. Results vary between people, and there is no way to know your own duration until you have had it once.

    Belotero, Versa, or Radiesse?

Express Med Spa carries three fillers and they do different jobs. Belotero is the soft one for fine lines and thin skin. Revanesse Versa is a firmer hyaluronic acid gel for lips and general volume. Radiesse is not hyaluronic acid at all: it is a calcium-based product that stimulates your own collagen and gives structure.

All three are $599 per syringe here, so the choice is purely about which one fits the tissue. That is a consultation question.

    About This Treatment

What follows is what Belotero is, where it belongs on the face, and where a different filler will serve you better. Belotero is a soft, highly cohesive hyaluronic acid gel, and that single property explains both what it is good at and what it is not. It integrates into thin skin without leaving a ridge, and it does not build a jawline. Results vary between people.

    Treatment Pricing

    From
    Price
    $349

Belotero is $599 per syringe at Express Med Spa, and $349 for a half syringe if a smaller correction is all you need. Both prices are flat, not starting figures, and they are the same at all four clinics. How many syringes you need depends on the area and how much volume has been lost, which is what the complimentary consultation is for. Belotero, Revanesse Versa and the general hyaluronic acid line all price at $599 per syringe here, so choosing between them is a question of which product suits the tissue, never a question of cost. Prices are subject to change.

Who Belotero Dermal Filler is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns This Treatment Addresses

Belotero suits shallow lines and thin, delicate skin: vertical lip lines, the lip border, lines from nose to mouth corner, fine cheek and chin crepiness, and hollowing beneath the eye. It is a good fit if what bothers you is a line or a shadow rather than a loss of facial structure.

Who Should Wait or Choose Something Else

Filler of any kind is deferred during pregnancy and breastfeeding, over active skin infection or inflammation at the injection site, and where there is a bleeding disorder or a course of blood thinners your prescriber has not cleared. Belotero is not used in people with a history of severe allergy or anaphylaxis, or with a known allergy to gram-positive bacterial proteins. If your goal is cheek or jawline structure, a firmer filler is the better answer, and if your concern is loose skin rather than a line, filler is the wrong category altogether.

    What to Expect

A 30 minute visit with a licensed medical provider, an immediate visible change, and a settled result at about two weeks that commonly holds for six to twelve months. Results vary between people, and the consultation is complimentary precisely so that nobody books a treatment that will not deliver what they are hoping for.

Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

      Contraindications
A history or presence of multiple or severe allergies, or any previous anaphylactic reaction.
Known allergy to gram-positive bacterial proteins, which are used in manufacturing hyaluronic acid gels.
Active infection, inflammation, or an open breakout at or near the intended injection site. Treatment is deferred until the skin has settled.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dermal fillers are not studied in these groups and Express Med Spa does not inject during either.
A bleeding disorder, or anticoagulant and antiplatelet medication that your prescribing clinician has not agreed you may pause.
Previous permanent or semi-permanent filler in the same area, which changes the tissue plane and the risk profile. Tell your injector even if it was years ago and somewhere else.
A goal that filler does not serve, such as cheek or jawline structure, skin laxity, or under-eye darkness caused by pigment rather than by volume loss.

      Risks / Side Effects

Swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching and temporary firmness at the injection site. These are the common effects and they usually settle within about seven days.
Lumps or unevenness as the gel settles, which is one reason a follow-up at one to two weeks is advised and why we would rather assess it than have you wait and worry.
A bluish or greyish tinge visible through thin skin, known as the Tyndall effect, if hyaluronic acid is placed too superficially. It is a documented effect with this class of product and it is correctable by dissolving the filler.
Injection into a blood vessel is rare but serious. It can cause blocked blood supply and skin breakdown, and in rare reported cases temporary or permanent vision impairment or blindness, stroke, or tissue death. This is the reason injections are performed only by trained licensed medical providers who know the facial vascular anatomy and keep reversal agents on site.
Infection at the injection site, and delayed inflammatory nodules that can appear weeks or months later, sometimes after an illness or vaccination.
An asymmetric or unsatisfying cosmetic result. Because Belotero is hyaluronic acid, this is correctable: an injection of hyaluronidase dissolves it within a day or two, so a result you dislike does not have to be waited out for months.

      What To Expect

      Pre & Post Treatment Care

      Pre-Care Instructions
Tell your provider about every filler, thread or permanent implant you have had in the area, including treatments performed elsewhere and years ago.
Where your prescribing clinician agrees, pause blood-thinning medication and supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo and high-dose ibuprofen for about a week. Never stop a prescribed anticoagulant on your own.
Skip alcohol for 24 hours beforehand. It thins the blood and makes bruising more likely.
Come with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area if you can.
Reschedule if you have an active cold sore, a breakout or any infection near the area, and tell us if you have a history of cold sores so it can be managed.
Do not book filler within two weeks of a wedding, a photograph or a holiday. Swelling and bruising need room to resolve.

      Post-Care Instructions

Leave the injection points alone for the rest of the day: no makeup, no rubbing, no facial massage.
Apply a cool compress gently for swelling. Do not press hard, and do not use ice directly on the skin.
Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga and sunbeds for 48 hours. Heat and raised blood pressure both worsen swelling and bruising.
Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first night or two.
Avoid facials, microdermabrasion, laser treatment and anything else that works the treated tissue for two weeks.
Expect the honest result at about two weeks, and keep your one to two week follow-up so it can be assessed properly.
Contact the clinic straight away if you develop severe or increasing pain, skin that turns white, dusky, blotchy or cold, or any change in your vision. These are rare, they are urgent, and we would far rather see you for nothing than late.

      • What Belotero Is and How It Behaves in Skin

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler made by Merz Aesthetics. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule your skin already makes; it binds water, and the volume it holds is part of why young skin looks full. Production falls with age, and injecting a stabilised gel form of it replaces some of what has gone.

What separates Belotero from other hyaluronic acid fillers is how the gel is cross-linked. Merz uses a process it calls cohesive polydensified matrix, which produces a gel with zones of differing density in the same syringe rather than one uniform stiffness. The softer zones let the material disperse into thin tissue and knit with it, instead of holding its shape as a discrete bolus.

That single property drives every clinical decision on this page. A gel that spreads and integrates is what you want in skin a millimetre thick, where a firmer product can telegraph as a visible ridge or cast a bluish shadow through the surface. The same property makes it the wrong tool when the goal is projection: material that spreads does not build a cheekbone.

Belotero is temporary. Your body breaks the gel down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase over months, and the same enzyme can be injected deliberately to dissolve the filler early if you dislike the result. That reversibility is a genuine safety feature and it is not something every category of filler offers.

      • Which Belotero Products Are Available in the US

If you have researched Belotero you have probably seen names like Belotero Soft, Belotero Intense and Belotero Volume. It is worth knowing before your consultation that those products are sold in other countries and are not available for use in the United States. Searching for them is common; being treated with them here is not possible.

The Belotero product used in American practices is Belotero Balance, which is also sold in a version containing a small amount of lidocaine for injection comfort. Because those two versions differ, this page does not claim your syringe will contain an anaesthetic. Ask your injector at the visit, and if numbing matters to you, topical anaesthetic is available regardless of which version is used.

This distinction is not pedantry. Product-specific claims you read online frequently come from European sources describing a formulation that is not on the shelf in Illinois, and the differences between them are real: they are built at different thicknesses for different depths. When you compare notes with someone treated abroad, you may not be comparing the same material at all.

      • The Facial Areas Belotero Treats at Express Med Spa

Belotero earns its place on shallow, delicate work where the skin is thin and moves a lot.

        • Vertical lip lines and the lip border. The fine creases above the upper lip are exactly the depth Belotero suits. For adding fullness to the lip body rather than softening lines around it, see lip filler augmentation, where a firmer gel is usually the better choice.
        • Lines around the mouth and smile lines. Softening the creases that run from nose to mouth corner is the longest-studied use of this product. Our nasolabial fold filler page covers that area in depth, and the fine radial lines are covered on perioral line filler.
        • The hollow under the eye. Skin here is the thinnest on the face, which is precisely where a soft, integrating gel matters most. This is a large enough topic to have its own page: read under eye filler for how it is assessed and what it can and cannot fix.
        • Fine lines across the cheeks and chin. Surface crepiness rather than volume loss.

Notice what is absent from that list: cheeks, jawline and temples. Those are structural jobs, and the next sections explain what we use instead.

      • What a Belotero Appointment Involves

Book a complimentary consultation first. A licensed medical provider looks at the area in motion, not just at rest, and tells you whether filler is the right answer at all. Plenty of people are told it is not.

The treatment visit itself runs about 30 minutes. Your provider cleans the skin thoroughly, marks the placement, and offers topical numbing. The gel goes in through a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, chosen by area: a cannula moves through tissue with less bruising and is often preferred near the eye. You will be handed a mirror during the process, not only at the end.

Afterwards you can drive yourself home and return to work. Expect swelling for a couple of days and the possibility of small bruises, which is why we ask you not to schedule filler in the two weeks before a wedding or a holiday. A one to two week follow-up is advised so the settled result can be assessed and topped up if needed.

All four Chicagoland clinics offer Belotero at the same price: Frankfort, La Grange, Shorewood, and Mount Greenwood in Chicago.

      • How Long Belotero Lasts and When Results Appear

The gel occupies space the moment it is placed, so you see a change immediately. That immediate look is not the result, because it includes swelling from the injection itself and the water the gel has not yet drawn in. Judge the outcome at about two weeks.

For duration, plan on roughly six to twelve months. The clinical work behind the nasolabial fold indication ran to about ten months. Two things shift that within the range: how much the area moves, since mobile tissue such as the lip breaks filler down faster than the relatively still skin beneath the eye, and your own metabolism, which is not something anyone can predict in advance.

You may see longer figures quoted elsewhere, including on older pages of this site we are in the process of correcting. Six to twelve months is the number supported by the manufacturer’s own data, and it is the number we would rather you plan around, because a filler that quietly fades at month eight is disappointing only if somebody promised you eighteen.

Two companion articles go deeper: how long Belotero lasts by treatment area, and whether Belotero is the right choice for fine lines.

      • Belotero, Versa, or Radiesse: Which Filler Fits

Express Med Spa carries three injectable fillers, and the honest answer to which is best is that they are not competitors. They are different materials for different tissue.

        • Belotero is the soft, integrating hyaluronic acid gel. Shallow lines, thin skin, delicate areas. It disappears into tissue, which is the point.
        • Revanesse Versa is a firmer hyaluronic acid gel that holds its shape. Lip body, general facial volume, anywhere you want the material to push rather than blend.
        • Radiesse is not hyaluronic acid. It is a calcium hydroxylapatite product that provides immediate structure and then stimulates your own collagen over the following months. Jawline, cheeks, hands and body. Because it is a different material, it is not reversible the way the hyaluronic acid fillers are.

All three are $599 per syringe at Express Med Spa. That is deliberate on our part and useful on yours: with price removed from the decision, the only question left is which material suits your anatomy, and your injector can answer that without either of you wondering about the incentive.

      • When Belotero Is Not the Right Choice

The most useful thing a filler page can do is tell you when to keep your money.

When you want structure. Cheek projection, a defined jawline, temple hollowing and midface support all need a gel that resists deformation. Belotero is built to do the opposite. Using it here means more syringes for less effect.

When the problem under your eyes is not volume. Dark circles have several causes and only one of them responds to filler. Pigmentation in the skin does not improve with volume beneath it, and a true herniated fat pad often looks worse once filler is added around it. That assessment is covered on our Belotero under eyes article and on the La Grange under-eye page.

When skin laxity is the real issue. Filler fills; it does not tighten. Loose skin needs a tightening or resurfacing treatment, and adding volume to it usually reads as puffiness.

And if you have had filler you regret. Because Belotero is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with an injection of hyaluronidase. Our filler dissolving service is $299, and we would rather reverse a result you dislike than talk you into living with it.
