At Express Med Spa, our nurse practitioners treat acne scars with microneedling, sublative radiofrequency microneedling, and chemical peels, matched to your scar type. We will be honest with you about results: the right plan can significantly improve acne scars over a series of treatments, but no treatment erases them completely, and some deep scars are better served by a dermatologist.       Who Acne Scar Treatment is For

      Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

      Who these treatments help most. Boxcar and rolling scars respond best to our in-office treatments, because they rebuild collagen under the indentation to gradually fill and smooth the texture. Surface texture and the post-acne marks and discoloration that come with healing acne improve with chemical peels, which pair well with collagen treatments.

      When another path may fit better. Icepick scars are the most stubborn and often need a dermatologist for options such as subcision, TCA CROSS, or laser resurfacing. Deep, widespread, or severe scarring is also best handled by a dermatologist. If that is the better path for your skin, we will tell you honestly at your free consultation.

        Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

        Contraindications
        Active acne breakouts in the treatment area — it is usually best to get active acne under control first so new breakouts do not create new scars.
        Pregnancy or breastfeeding (discuss with your provider at your consultation).
        Active skin infection, open wound, or inflamed skin in the treatment area.
        A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring (discussed at your consultation).
        Deep icepick scarring or severe scarring that may be better served by a dermatologist.

        Risks / Side Effects

        Temporary redness, swelling, or sensitivity in the treated area after microneedling or a peel.
        Flaking or peeling of the skin following a chemical peel as the surface renews.
        A small risk of pigment change, which we lower by choosing settings and peel types carefully, especially for darker skin tones.
        Results build gradually over a series; a single session does not erase scars.

        Pre-Care Instructions
        Come in for a free consultation first so your provider can match the treatment to your scar type.
        Avoid sun exposure and tanning before your appointment.
        Pause retinoids and other strong actives ahead of treatment if your provider advises it.
        Let your provider know about any active breakouts so timing can be adjusted.

        Post-Care Instructions

        Protect the treated skin with daily sun protection while it heals and renews.
        Follow your provider's aftercare for any redness, flaking, or peeling.
        Allow the spacing your provider recommends between sessions so collagen can rebuild.
        Keep active acne under control between visits so new breakouts do not create new scars.
