  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    How does filler dissolving work?

We inject hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down the hyaluronic acid in fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Versa, and Revanesse. Your body then clears the softened gel within days.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    Which areas can be dissolved?

Lips are the most common, but we also dissolve filler in the cheeks, under-eyes, chin, jawline, and nasolabial folds, including migrated or lumpy filler.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What happens at my appointment?

After a quick assessment, your injector places a few small hyaluronidase injections into the target area. The visit takes about 15 to 30 minutes and you leave the same day.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

How fast does it work, and is it permanent?

You will notice softening within 24 to 48 hours, and the area fully settles over 1 to 2 weeks. Dissolved filler is gone permanently.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What filler cannot be dissolved?

Only hyaluronic acid filler responds to hyaluronidase. Radiesse and Sculptra are not HA and cannot be dissolved; they fade as your body absorbs them over time.

Who Filler Dissolving in Chicagoland is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns Filler Dissolving Addresses

Filler dissolving is for anyone unhappy with hyaluronic acid filler they already have. It commonly corrects:

    • Overfilled or top-heavy lips that look like too much
    • Filler migration, where product spreads above the lip border or blurs the edge
    • Lumps, bumps, or nodules you can feel under the skin
    • Asymmetry between the two sides
    • A bluish tint under the eyes, called the Tyndall effect, from tear-trough filler
    • Simple regret, or resetting the area before starting fresh with a new filler plan

    Who Is a Good Candidate

You are likely a good candidate if you have hyaluronic acid filler you want reduced, reshaped, or fully removed. A consultation confirms that your filler is HA-based and can be dissolved, and clarifies how many sessions you may need.

    Safety and Contraindications

Filler dissolving is not suitable for non-hyaluronic-acid fillers such as Radiesse and Sculptra. Let your injector know if you have a known allergy to hyaluronidase or to bee or wasp stings, an active skin infection or cold sore at the treatment site, or if you are pregnant or nursing. In the rare event of a filler-related vascular occlusion, hyaluronidase is used urgently under medical direction.

      • How Filler Dissolving Works

Filler dissolving uses hyaluronidase, a naturally occurring enzyme delivered as a quick injection (brand names include Hylenex and Vitrase). Hyaluronidase breaks apart hyaluronic acid (HA), the smooth gel used in fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Versa, and Revanesse. Within a day or two the softened filler breaks down and your body clears it naturally.

Because it targets hyaluronic acid specifically, filler dissolving is precise. Your injector can soften a single overfilled area, smooth a lump, correct migration, or remove filler entirely, depending on your goal. It is the same enzyme used in urgent care if filler ever needs to be reversed quickly for medical reasons.

      • Areas We Dissolve

Lips are by far the most common area we dissolve, especially when lip filler has spread, migrated above the lip border, or simply looks like too much. If you are still in the early days after treatment, our guide to how long bruising from lip filler lasts can help you tell normal swelling apart from a result you want changed.

We also dissolve filler in the:

        • Cheeks and midface
        • Under-eyes and tear troughs
        • Chin and jawline
        • Nasolabial folds and the area around the mouth

Whether the issue is filler migration, a visible lump or nodule, or overcorrection from a previous visit, hyaluronidase lets us treat just the area that needs it rather than everything at once.

      • What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your visit starts with a short consultation. Your nurse injector reviews the filler you have, what is bothering you, and how much you want to dissolve. If you know the product name and the date of your last filler, bring that information; if not, that is completely fine.

The treatment itself is quick. Your injector places a few small hyaluronidase injections into the target area, usually 15 to 30 minutes from start to finish. Most clients return to their day right away, with only minor swelling. All treatments at Express Med Spa are performed by licensed nurse practitioners and registered nurses with injectable training.

      • When Filler Dissolves and How Long It Lasts

Most people see the treated area begin to soften within 24 to 48 hours. The full result settles over 1 to 2 weeks as any temporary swelling from the injection resolves. Dense or heavily migrated filler sometimes needs a second session to fully clear, which your injector will let you know at your visit.

Dissolving is permanent. Once the hyaluronic acid filler is broken down, it is gone for good. If you decide you want fresh filler afterward, we recommend waiting about two weeks so the area fully settles before you re-treat.

      • What Filler Can and Cannot Be Dissolved

Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers. That covers most popular options, including Juvederm, Restylane, Versa, and Revanesse. Left alone, HA filler can take 6 to 18 months to fade on its own, so dissolving is the fast, targeted alternative when you do not want to wait.

Some fillers are not hyaluronic acid and cannot be dissolved. Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) and Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) are biostimulators that your body absorbs gradually over time, and hyaluronidase has no effect on them. If you are not sure which filler you have, our injectors can help you figure it out during your consultation.
