If you are wondering whether you qualify for weight loss injections, here is where our team starts. For weight loss medication in general, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases explains that a health care professional may prescribe it for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related health problem such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. Meeting a BMI threshold is the starting point, not the decision. The consultation includes a health assessment and a review of your lab work, and your nurse practitioner checks your history for anything that would rule a medication out. Phentermine, the pill-form option, requires well-controlled blood pressure.
