Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent? A Nurse Injector Explains
In this short video, Stephanie Guenther, RN, an aesthetic nurse injector at Express Med Spa, walks through what laser hair removal actually does to a hair follicle. She covers which hair colors the laser can and cannot treat, how many sessions a typical course takes, what changes after each block of visits, which areas tend to be most sensitive, and what aftercare looks like. She also explains the part people most often misunderstand: the follicles treated during a session are permanently disabled, but new follicles can develop over time, which is why she recommends periodic maintenance.

Hi, my name is Stephanie. I’m a registered nurse injector at Express Med Spa. Today we are talking about laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal can be done almost on any part of the body where you grow hair. We can only treat areas with darker hair. The lasers will not pick up on non-pigmented white hair or super light blonde hair.
I’ve been certified to do laser hair removal for over two years. If I could take a guess, I would say I’ve treated about 200 plus people with laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal treatment depends on the location and the coarseness and color of the hair, so it is typically done between 6 to 12 sessions, spacing about 5 to 6 weeks apart. We can do laser hair removal from the face all the way down to the toes.
After your first couple sessions, your hair will start to grow back lighter, softer, and more sporadic. After sessions 3 to 5, you’ll start to feel patchy in areas, and sessions 6 to 10 is maintenance cleanup.
The follicles that we kill off after these times is a permanent procedure. You can, however, acquire new follicles over time. That’s why we like to do maintenance once a year, twice a year.
The more sensitive areas for laser hair removal are the underarms, the upper lip, and the bikini and Brazilian areas.
So with laser hair removal there is no downtime. After, I ask that you do not go into extreme heat, saunas, or hot tubs immediately after, and treat it almost like a mild burn. You will not have any discoloration. Redness can be present due from the heat, but you should have no burn or scarring.
If you’d like to come and see me for laser hair removal, you can book me online at expressmedspas.com, call us at 877-363-3772, or stop into one of our locations.
