BEST FOR

Cellulite dimpling on the buttocks and thighs, crepey or lax skin, loss of buttock volume, hip dip contour
  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

How does Radiesse work on the buttocks and thighs?

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a gel carrier that acts as a scaffold for your own collagen. On the body it is used two ways: hyperdiluted, meaning mixed with additional fluid so it spreads across a broad plane and works mainly on skin quality and the look of dimpling, and at fuller strength in deeper planes where the goal is contour support.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

Which areas are treated, and how do the two approaches differ?

We treat the buttocks, the outer hip curve many people search for as hip dips, and the upper and back of the thighs. The hyperdilute approach covers broad planes to firm skin and soften the look of dimpling; the volumizing approach is placed deeper in fewer points for contour support. Most plans use both, and body areas need more syringes than a facial area.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What happens at my appointment?

Your nurse practitioner reviews your skin quality, laxity, and contour goals, then marks the zones to be treated. We cleanse the area and can apply a topical numbing cream before the product is placed through a small number of entry points. Most visits run about 60 to 90 minutes.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

The fluid placed at the appointment gives an early change that settles within days, and that is not the result. The real change is the collagen your body builds over the following weeks to a few months. Results commonly last 12 to 18 months. Individual results vary.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

How does this compare to surgery, QWO, or Sculptra?

Surgery moves fat or places an implant and produces a larger, longer lasting change with real recovery; an injectable does neither and its results are subtler. QWO was an injectable cellulite treatment that its manufacturer discontinued in 2023. Sculptra is another biostimulator, but Express Med Spa does not offer Sculptra.

    About This Treatment

Here is how Radiesse is used on the body, which zones we treat, what an appointment involves, how results build, and how this compares to surgery and to the injectables people ask about most. The short answers are in the slides, with the full guide further down the page.

    Treatment Pricing

Non-surgical butt lift and cellulite treatment with Radiesse is priced at your consultation. The buttocks, hips, and thighs cover far more surface area than a facial treatment area, so the number of syringes, and your total, depend on the plan your injector builds with you. Prices are subject to change and are based on a planned consultation with our staff.

Who Non-Surgical Butt Lift and Cellulite Treatment is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

    Concerns This Treatment Addresses

    • Cellulite dimpling across the buttocks and thighs
    • Crepey, lax skin texture on the buttocks and upper thighs
    • Loss of firmness and skin quality after a change in weight or with age
    • A flatter upper buttock curve where volume has been lost
    • A stepped outer hip contour, often searched for as hip dips

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Non-Surgical Butt Lift?

This treatment fits adults in reasonably stable health whose goal is smoother, firmer skin and a modest improvement in contour rather than a large change in size. It is a strong fit if you are willing to wait weeks for collagen to build rather than expecting an instant change, and if you are comfortable choosing a product that is not reversible in exchange for a result that commonly lasts 12 to 18 months.

It may not be the right choice if you want a substantial increase in size or projection, which is a surgical question rather than an injectable one; if significant loose skin is your main concern; if you want a product that can be dissolved; if your weight is changing quickly, since that moves the result; or if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain allergies or medical conditions. Your nurse practitioner will recommend an alternative in those cases.

    Safety Overview

At Express Med Spa, every body treatment is performed by a licensed nurse practitioner or registered nurse. Using Radiesse on the buttocks, hips, and thighs is an off-label use: the approval on file for this product covers the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Off-label use of an approved product is common and lawful in aesthetic medicine, and your provider reviews what it means for your plan before anything is injected.

Because Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, your consultation includes an honest conversation about whether it is the right product for your goals. Tell your provider about any allergies, medications, bleeding disorders, history of severe allergic reactions, and any previous injections into the buttocks or hips, including any non-medical or permanent materials, so we can plan the safest treatment for you.

Express Med Spa is amazing! Addy at the front desk instantly made me feel comfortable—she’s so sweet and welcoming, the kind of person who makes walking in feel easy instead of intimidating.I saw Angelika for a mini lip and she was incredible! She took her time explaining everything, was so gentle, and really listened to what I wanted. The results turned out perfect—super natural but exactly the little boost I was hoping for.Between Addy’s energy and Angelika’s talent, I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’ve been thinking about booking, do it—you’ll love it here! 💕Definitely will be coming back for more!!

Cannot recommend more if you are looking for a place to leave your body, mind and soul lifted. Great humans that are proficient at their craft.

    • I highly recommend Kaitlin K at Express Med Spa. I recently had my 1st laser hair removal session with Kaitlin and I am beyond impressed with the results! The entire process was smooth, professional, and virtually painless. Kaitlin was knowledgeable, explaining each step in detail and making sure I felt comfortable throughout the treatment. They customized the laser settings based on my skin type and hair color, which reassured me that I was in good hands. The spa was clean, hygienic, and well-equipped with modern technology. I also appreciated their post-treatment care advice, which helped me avoid irritation.

Contraindications & Risks / Side Effects

      Contraindications
Known allergy or hypersensitivity to any component of Radiesse
History of severe allergies or anaphylaxis
Active skin infection, rash, or inflammation at or near the injection site
Bleeding disorders, or blood thinning medications that raise bleeding and bruising risk
Pregnancy or breastfeeding (safety has not been established)
Lip augmentation (safety of Radiesse in the lips has not been established and nodules have been reported)
The area around the eyes (safety in the periorbital area has not been established)
A history of heavy or keloid scarring, reviewed with your provider first
Adults younger than 22 (the manufacturer's labeling addresses adults 22 and older)
Previous non-medical or permanent injectable materials, such as silicone, in the buttocks or hips

      Risks / Side Effects

Bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness, or itching at the injection sites, usually settling within days
Swelling, tenderness, and bruising can be more noticeable and last longer after a body treatment than after a facial treatment, because more product is placed across a larger area
Temporary firmness or small bumps that typically soften as the filler integrates
Temporary firmness in the treated area can be more noticeable when you sit or lie down
Nodules are uncommon but possible, and Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase
Asymmetry or under correction that may need a follow up adjustment
Radiesse is radiopaque and can be visible on X-rays and CT scans; tell your imaging provider you have it
Rare vascular occlusion, which is why treatment by a trained medical injector matters
Results are not instantly reversible; unwanted results are managed with time, massage, or other clinician led options
Improvement in contour and skin quality is more subtle than a surgical procedure, and some plans need more than one session to reach the goal
Individual results vary, and some patients choose a second session to reach their goal

Avoid self tanner, heavy lotions, and oils on the buttocks, hips, and thighs for several days before your appointment

Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and excessive heat for 24 to 48 hours

Leave shapewear, compression garments, and tight waistbands off the treated area unless your injector tells you to wear them

      • How Radiesse Works on the Buttocks, Hips, and Thighs

Radiesse is an injectable made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. CaHA is a mineral compound found naturally in bone, which is part of why Radiesse behaves differently from the hyaluronic acid fillers most people research first. It does not simply sit in place adding volume; it acts as a scaffold that prompts your own cells to lay down new collagen.

On the body that scaffold is used in two different ways, and the difference between them is most of what separates a plan that fits your goal from one that disappoints you.

        • Hyperdilute Radiesse: the product is mixed with additional fluid before injection so it spreads evenly across a broad surface in a fine layer. Used this way it works mainly as a biostimulator, supporting skin quality and firmness and softening how dimpling reads across the buttocks and thighs.
        • Volumizing Radiesse: the product is placed at fuller strength in deeper planes, in fewer defined points, where the goal is contour support and a modest lift to the upper curve of the buttocks or the outer hip.

In both cases the gel carrier is absorbed over the weeks after treatment and your own collagen takes over the structural work, which is why the change keeps building after the appointment is over. For the underlying science, read our guide to what Radiesse is and how it works, and see our Radiesse filler hub for the facial version of this treatment.

      • Treated Zones and the Two Ways Radiesse Is Used on the Body

Radiesse is placed across defined planes and points rather than into individual dimples. At Express Med Spa the treated zones are:

        • The buttocks: where dimpling and crepey, lax skin show most, and where lost volume flattens the upper curve
        • The hips and the outer curve: the step in the contour between the hip bone and the thigh that many people search for as hip dips
        • The upper and back of the thighs: where dimpling and skin texture continue below the buttock crease

How the product is applied matters as much as where. For skin quality and dimpling your injector uses the hyperdilute approach, distributing product in a fine, even layer across the whole plane through a small number of entry points using a cannula or a fine needle. For contour, the volumizing approach places product deeper in fewer points so it supports the shape rather than spreading across it. Most plans use both, and the balance depends on whether skin quality or contour is your main goal.

Surface area is why dosing works differently here than on the face. The buttocks, hips, and thighs cover far more skin than a single facial treatment area, so body plans use more syringes than a facial plan, and your injector confirms the number at your consultation.

There is also work this treatment does not do. It does not remove fat, it does not transfer fat, and it is not a substitute for surgery when the goal is a large change in size. If you are still mapping your options, our body contouring treatments overview covers the other services we offer for the body.

      • What to Expect at Your Body Contouring Appointment

Every appointment starts with a consultation. Your nurse practitioner looks at your skin quality, how much laxity is present, and what you want your contour to do, then tells you honestly whether Radiesse is the right tool or whether something else fits your goal better. Because Radiesse cannot be dissolved the way a hyaluronic acid filler can, that planning conversation carries real weight.

        The visit itself is straightforward:

        • We cleanse the treatment area and can apply a topical numbing cream for comfort.
        • Your injector marks the zones to be treated so the product is distributed evenly.
        • Product is placed through a small number of entry points using a cannula or a fine needle.
        • Most visits take about 60 to 90 minutes from start to finish.
        • You can return to most normal activities the same day, with some tenderness where you sit for the first day or two.

Non-surgical butt lift and cellulite treatment is priced at your consultation rather than from a set figure, because the number of syringes depends on the plan your injector builds with you. Our guide to Radiesse filler cost explains how Radiesse pricing works in general, and your injector confirms your own total before anything is placed.

      • Results Timeline and How Long a Non-Surgical Butt Lift Lasts

Two things happen on two different clocks. Immediately after treatment the added fluid gives an early plumping effect across the treated area, and that settles within a few days. That early look is not your result. The result is the collagen your body builds in response to the CaHA scaffold, which develops over the following weeks and keeps improving for a few months.

Most people describe the change as skin that feels firmer and thicker, dimpling that reads softer rather than erased, and a contour that looks supported rather than dramatically larger. Skin quality tends to improve before contour does. Results commonly last 12 to 18 months, depending on your skin, changes in your weight, and how much product was used. Individual results vary.

Because the buttocks, hips, and thighs cover a large area, some people plan a second session a few months after the first to build further, then return for maintenance as the effect fades. For a fuller breakdown of how long the product lasts, read how long Radiesse filler lasts.

      • How This Compares to Surgery, QWO, and Sculptra

If you are weighing options for the buttocks and thighs, here is the honest landscape:

Versus a surgical butt lift. Surgery transfers your own fat or places an implant. It changes size and shape far more than any injectable can, it lasts longer, and it carries surgical risk, anesthesia, and weeks of real recovery. Radiesse does none of that. What it offers is better skin quality and a subtler contour change with no fat transfer and no operating room, and if a substantial change in size is what you want, surgery is the honest answer and we will say so at your consultation. One naming note worth clearing up: a non-surgical butt lift is sometimes searched as a non-surgical BBL, an abbreviation that on our own menu also stands for BroadBand Light, the photofacial device we use on skin, so the two are easy to confuse and are completely unrelated.

Versus QWO. QWO was an injectable treatment for cellulite. Its manufacturer discontinued it in 2023, so it is no longer on the market, and Express Med Spa does not offer it. People searching for a QWO alternative are usually looking for another way to improve how dimpling reads, and a collagen stimulating injectable is the option we offer for that goal.

Versus Sculptra. Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator that builds gradually across a series of sessions with no immediate change, and it is the product most often named in butt lift comparisons. Express Med Spa does not offer Sculptra. The collagen stimulating option we do offer for the body is Radiesse, and our Radiesse vs Sculptra comparison lays out both sides fairly.

Versus device based cellulite treatments. Laser and radiofrequency treatments work from the outside in, heating tissue to firm skin, rather than placing a biostimulator beneath it. They are complementary rather than competing, and plenty of people combine them, spaced apart; see RF skin tightening for that option.
