How Does IPL Work? A Nurse Injector Explains

My name is Stephanie. I am a registered nurse injector at Express Med Spa. Today we are talking about IPL photo lasering. IPL is good for hyperpigmented and melasma areas, it’s good for rosacea, and it’s good for any broken capillaries and vessels.

So with IPL, we can do a full facial, or we can do spot treatments to get rid of certain dark spots. Or, if you have any broken capillaries or vessels, we can get rid of those in a spot treatment. Otherwise, we can do your full face.

The benefits of IPL: you can diminish darker spots, you can diminish or lighten your rosacea, and you can get rid of small broken capillaries. Often, when we hit the pigmented lesions, the dark spots will get darker and the areas will fall out almost like a dark coffee ground.

All of our laser procedures work from the inside out. So, like with laser hair removal, I like to call it weeding. You have a weed, and over the course of me hitting it with this laser, there are still nutrients on the top, so it is going to continue to work off every time I kill it until there is nothing else to feed on. With IPL, I am hitting this pigmented lesion, and it is going to disperse all of the color and push it out from inside.

The IPL treatment course depends on the size and the color of the lesions. It can take a few treatments, but for smaller vessels it usually takes just one or two.
