BEST FOR

Frown lines (11s), forehead lines, crow's feet, Botox-resistant patients
  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    How does Xeomin work?

Xeomin is a botulinum toxin type A that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles by blocking the nerve signal that causes them to contract. It is a purified formulation with the accessory proteins removed, leaving only the active neurotoxin.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What areas can Xeomin treat?

Xeomin is FDA-approved for frown lines (the glabellar 11s between the brows) and is also used to soften forehead lines and crow's feet. Like Botox, it works only on dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

    What happens at my appointment?

Your injector assesses your muscle movement and marks the injection points, then places Xeomin in 15 to 20 minutes. First-time patients receive a complimentary 2-week check-in to fine-tune the result.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Xeomin results appear over 3 to 14 days and typically last 3 to 4 months. Metabolism, treatment area, and the number of units all influence how long your individual result holds.

  • Stefanie Drozd, Full Practice Authority Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetic and wellness treatments

Xeomin vs. Botox: what does Express Med Spa use?

Express Med Spa offers both. Both are botulinum toxin type A and work the same way; Xeomin is purified without the accessory proteins Botox carries. Your injector recommends the right product based on your treatment history and goals.

    About This Treatment

Xeomin is a "naked" neurotoxin - botulinum toxin type A purified down to just the active ingredient. See how it works and how it compares to Botox below, with the full treatment guide further down the page.

Who Xeomin Injections in Chicagoland is For

Good Candidates? Is This Right for You?

Who Is a Good Candidate for Xeomin?

Xeomin works best for adults 21 and older who have dynamic wrinkles – lines that appear or deepen when you make a facial expression. If you can see lines form when you frown, squint, or raise your brows, those are dynamic wrinkles and Xeomin is likely an effective option for you.
Xeomin is a particularly good fit if you prefer a purified, additive-free neurotoxin, or if you have received Botox consistently for years and have noticed your results not lasting the way they once did. Because Xeomin is formulated without accessory proteins, some long-term neurotoxin patients explore switching to it. Mention your full treatment history at your consultation so your injector can recommend the right product.

    Concerns Xeomin Addresses

    • Glabellar frown lines (the vertical “11s” between the brows) – Xeomin’s FDA-approved cosmetic indication
    • Horizontal forehead lines
    • Lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet)
    • Brow asymmetry correctable with targeted neurotoxin placement

    Safety Overview

Xeomin is manufactured by Merz Aesthetics and has been FDA-approved for the treatment of glabellar frown lines since 2011. At Express Med Spa, all Xeomin treatments are performed or directly supervised by licensed nurse practitioners and registered nurses with injectable training. Injections are never delegated to unlicensed staff.
Please share your full medical history, current medications, and any supplements at your consultation. Some conditions and medications require closer evaluation before any botulinum toxin can be safely administered.

Amazing Experience with Xeomin for TMJ at Shorewood Med Spa! If you are searching for the best med spa for TMJ neurotoxin treatments, don't sleep on this place! I had an amazing experience at the Shorewood location getting Xeomin injections for jaw tension. From the start, the service was seamless—check-in was a breeze and they were able to process my Flex Spending (FSA). Kristina was incredibly knowledgeable; she answered all my questions about how neurotoxins help TMJ and discussed future treatment options naturally without a heavy sales pitch. Even though it takes a few days to see the full results of the injections, the customer service alone has me feeling so confident. I'm excited for my two-week aftercare follow-up! Great pricing, great staff, and excellent care.

Nurse Kristina was amazing!!! I have done Botox before multiple times and she really made me feel comfortable and not the traditional "cold" feeling of a med spa. She also is NOT pushy and very honest about if you do not need anything. I appreciated her technique and kindness. I almost fainted and she was awesome about it.

First time Botox gal and gosh, did Kristina take care of me! She greeted me warmly and instantly helped me to feel comfortable. We talked through my target areas (11s, forehead wrinkles and crows feet starting). As I’m aging I wanted to be preventative, and Kristin walked me through the process, and even checked in on me a week later. So happy with my results and SO excited to go back and see Kristina again!

    • I’ve been going to Express Med Spa in La Grange for a while now and every visit has been solid from start to finish. The place is clean, comfortable, and never feels rushed. Stefanie Drozd is the lead nurse and she’s the reason I keep coming back. She’s straightforward, knows her stuff, and has a way of making treatments feel easy. I first went in for wrinkle prevention with Xeomin. I was a little nervous about looking overdone but Stefanie explained exactly what to expect and kept it natural. The results looked like me, just rested and sharper around the edges. No comments from friends about “getting work done,” just a few people asking if I’d been on vacation. I’ve also had their men’s facial, which was a game changer for my skin. It cleared out clogged pores, helped with dryness, and just made my face feel cleaner and smoother than it had in years. They suggested laser hair removal for my neckline since I deal with irritation from shaving, and that has saved me a lot of time in the mornings. For guys who want to look a little more awake and take better care of their skin without it being obvious, this is the spot. Stefanie’s approach makes it easy to trust you’ll walk out looking better, not different.

      • How Xeomin Works

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A injectable that temporarily relaxes the specific facial muscles responsible for expression lines. When a licensed injector places a small amount of Xeomin into a targeted muscle, it blocks the nerve signal that tells that muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes, and the overlying skin smooths.

What sets Xeomin apart is its formulation. Manufacturer Merz purifies Xeomin down to just the active neurotoxin, removing the accessory (complexing) proteins that other botulinum toxins carry. This is why Xeomin is often called a “naked” or purified neurotoxin.

Like all neurotoxins, Xeomin works on dynamic wrinkles – lines that form from repeated muscle movement such as frowning, squinting, or raising your brows. It does not change skin texture or affect the muscles that create your natural expressions. Results appear gradually over 3 to 14 days as the neurotoxin takes effect.

      • Xeomin Treatment Areas at Express Med Spa

Xeomin is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe frown lines, and our injectors also use it to soften other dynamic lines of the upper face. Common treatment areas include:

        • Glabella (11 lines) – the vertical frown lines between the brows; this is Xeomin’s FDA-approved cosmetic indication
        • Forehead lines – horizontal creases that appear when you raise your brows
        • Crow’s feet – fine lines that fan out from the outer corners of the eyes
        • Brow lift – subtle upward repositioning of the brow with strategic placement above the lateral brow

Because Xeomin and Botox share the same mechanism, most upper-face areas treatable with Botox can also be treated with Xeomin. Your injector maps the placement to your muscle movement during your consultation. If you are exploring wrinkle relaxers more broadly, see our Botox Injections page – Express Med Spa carries both.

      • What to Expect at Your Xeomin Appointment

Your appointment begins with a brief consultation. Your injector reviews your concerns, assesses your facial muscle movement, and marks the planned injection points. A topical numbing cream is available on request, though most patients find the injections comfortable without it.

The injections themselves take 15 to 20 minutes, and you can return to most normal activities immediately afterward. Express Med Spa’s locations in La Grange, Frankfort, Shorewood, and Mt. Greenwood are accessible from across the Chicago southwest suburbs, including patients traveling from the Naperville area.

We schedule a complimentary 2-week follow-up for all first-time neurotoxin patients. If any area needs a touch-up, or you want to adjust the dose, we address it at that visit before the result fully stabilizes.

      • When You'll See Results and How Long Xeomin Lasts

Xeomin results appear over 3 to 14 days as the neurotoxin takes effect, and most patients see their result last 3 to 4 months. Several factors influence how long your individual result holds:

        • Treatment history – First-time patients often notice results beginning to fade closer to the 2 to 3 month mark. With consistent treatment over time, the targeted muscles gradually weaken from underuse and many patients find their results extend.
        • Metabolism – A faster metabolic rate can process the neurotoxin more quickly, shortening the duration of effect.
        • Treatment area – High-activity areas like crow’s feet may fade slightly faster than the forehead, which moves less throughout the day.
        • Units used – Conservative dosing may produce a shorter duration. Your injector calibrates units to your muscle mass and the level of correction you want.

Most patients schedule maintenance appointments every 3 to 4 months to keep results continuous.

      • Xeomin vs. Botox: What Express Med Spa Offers

Express Med Spa offers both Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic. Both are botulinum toxin type A injectables, both work by the same mechanism, and both deliver comparable smoothing of dynamic wrinkles. The difference is in the formulation: Botox Cosmetic contains accessory proteins alongside the active toxin, while Xeomin is a purified formulation with those proteins removed.

In everyday practice, most patients do not notice a meaningful difference in results between the two. Some patients prefer Xeomin’s stripped-down formulation, and patients who have received Botox consistently for many years and notice their results not holding the way they used to sometimes switch to Xeomin. Your injector will recommend the product that best fits your treatment history and goals. If you would like to compare, our Botox Injections page walks through that option in the same detail.
